Australian Joeys with a 3rd Thetford Beaver

Posted on July 24th, 2016 by admin

One of our Beavers leaders managed to meet up with some Australian groups while over there on holiday. They are staying in touch and here’s some of the correspondences we’re able to share.

Communication from Baldivis Joeys

Hi Louise (Lioness),

I’m so sorry itโ€™s taken me so long to get back to you, my daughter fell ill and needed to be in hospital, then I fell ill so I haven’t been up to doing much, were all good now and back to work, school, scouts etc.

I’m so glad you enjoyed yourself; my Joeys loved having you visit, and have been showing the new Joeys all the badges and the Beaver Teddy. We now have 10 invested Joeys and 2 more awaiting investiture.

We have a package to send you with a Joey, badges, scarf and some pictures, we are out of the hall this week due to a camp at Manjedal activities centre in Jarrahdale, this is a campsite owned by scouts WA.

I hope to keep regular contact with you and your Colony of Beaver Scouts.

Kind Regards

Melissa McCabe (KANGA)

Communication from Kwinana Joeys

Hi Louise,

I hope you and your family are well ๐Ÿ™‚

Sorry it has been so long for me to get back in touch with you! I just thought I’d give you a little update on our little Beavers adventures with us.

A few weeks ago we went on a Joey Cub Day outing to the Perth Zoo. Beaver saw many animals including some dinosaurs!

We also went on a buddy outing with another Joey Mob to a playground, which formed part of our Buddy Badge. Beaver had a great time!

I have included a couple of photos, but will try and work out how to create a link so I can send you them all. Or maybe we could create a private Facebook group? Either way, I will be sure to get you all the photos so your Beaver Scouts can be kept up to date with Beavers adventures!

Please let me know what you would like me to do.

Stay safe and talk soon,

Bilby (Helen)

Climbing evening

Posted on July 23rd, 2016 by admin

What a way to enjoy an evening?

Mowgli booked out the climbing wall and instructor for a night of climbing. That’s the fun of cubs, pushing your skills and learning new things.

Young leaders got in on the action and even an investiture half way up the wall. Pretty good evening of fun.

Well done everyone, however high you managed to get.

Investment of a new member and a really unusual ceremony. One to be remembered.

Hut gardening team

Posted on July 21st, 2016 by admin

Our leaders and helpers are some of the very best but tonight was amazing. A dream team of helpers came and cleaned the grounds up.

A massive thank you for all the team and their partners, that let them out for fun and games.

The dream team, Ashley, Chris, Nigel, Steve, Paul and Louise…..and little helpers Alfie and Austin.

An incredible difference after a huge effort. Approx 16 man working hours and a couple of gallons of fuel. Ready for the group to enjoy for weeks to come.

We almost lost them in that long grass.

Mr December when we do our fund raising calendar.

9:30 and finished.

Leave your comments and thanks for the team.

Scouting in Thetford 1986-7

Posted on July 14th, 2016 by admin

Just spent a lovely half hour with Jenny Brown and picked up some photos from the time of her father Fred Airfield’s mayorship of Thetford in 1986-87.

We’re trying to collect a history of Thetford scouting and these photos are great.

If you recognise anyone, please comment with name and we’ll record it for posterity. Great to see so many enjoying what we still do so well.

Mayor Fred Attfield with 4th Thetford Cubs 1986-87

Thank you for sharing these with us, it’s great to have these for history. Some of these may be the parents of current beavers, cubs and scouts.
